Another Consciousparents.org birthday party is a hit!

A fun party was had by the brave souls who ventured out in San Diego’s rainiest Friday evenings to attend a Consciousparents.org birthday party for 4 year old Chiara.

Some highlights and feedback from Chiara’s mom:

School birthday celebration:

“We made Trader Joe’s muffins with whole wheat flour, berries and nuts and topped them w/ cream cheese. One kid (the most outspoken child in the classroom) made the first remark that “these are no good” but he ended up eating it, and he didn’t affect the other kids. They all loved the muffins and they all ate them completely–all 24 kids so that went well. The teachers were happy as they usually serve the kids cupcakes when it’s someone’s b-day (at the 10 AM snack time!). It was a rainy day so they couldn’t go outside to “run them off” like the teachers said they’d do. I felt responsible serving a healthy snack vs a sugary cupcake & icing!”

Party food:

“We ended up grilling on the rainiest day in San Diego history but it went well. We grilled organic beef hamburgers and all-natural chicken & apple sausages from Costco. We bought wheat buns from TJs and we used organic lettuce for the burgers. We made the side dishes: mashed potato casserole, a tomato-black bean-corn & cilantro dish and a spinach salad (organic w/ organic olive oil & vinegar dressing). We served organic tortilla chips & guac. along w/ fresh dip & hummus from the farmer’s market.”

Gift policy:

“The suggestion to bring learning gifts was great and parents responded. We ended up w/ 1 Barbie (and we got Chiara a doll since she didn’t have a real doll w/ hair until now) and the other gifts were books, a Leap Frog Elec. Writing Tablet, board games, a Doodle Pad Activity Book, etc. Chiara was excited to get these great gifts that she will use a lot and that she’ll learn from!

Goodie bags:

“We gave every child a used book. On every book we taped an organic lollipop (made w/ real fruit and no coloring or preservatives) and a stencil. The kids enjoyed picking a book to take home with them.”

Instead of a goodie bag, children received a used book with an organic lollipop taped to the front.

We are so grateful for the opportunity to have worked with Chiara’s mom to help make her party something she and her husband felt great about.  We look forward to helping many more of you with the same!
