How aware are infants really?

In this week’s video post, I discuss the powerful idea about just exactly how aware infants are from the start – far more so than many people think.  Understanding this point can be a vital component to a conscious parent’s approach to their children.

Have you had any experiences with your children where you just knew they were aware at that early age?

  1. Do you have the name of that documentary? It sounds very interesting. Since having my second child, I feel a little disconnected from my first one, she’s almost four and I want us to have that close connection again. Sooner, rather than later. I do believe that our little ones are more aware than we realize. Thanks for the insight.

    • Thanks, Angela…..the documentary is called “What Babies Want” and here is the link…http://whatbabieswant.com/. Congratulations on #2, and I know you’ll get back on track with your first born. Adjustment of the family dynamic takes time, and the fact you are noticing it and wanting to change it is most of the battle right there. All my best, please let me know how I can best support you.

  2. Thanks, Erika. I would love to learn more about your parenting program. We finally made the decision to place our daughter in preschool next year. I am hoping that will help, but I know if will be yet another thing she will have to adjust to. We shall see.

    • Hi Angela – thanks for your note. There are many things you can do when she goes to preschool, that can keep you connected to her while she’s there. It’s really important that if your child is going to be away from you for a while, that you do the hand off to the new caregiver in a way that let’s your daughter know you are trusting that person. Keeping connected, like giving her a special something that she can look at and know that she knows you love her – like a bracelet, or a little blanket. There is also a great book called “The Invisible String” that talks about how you are always connected to everyone you love by an invisible string – no matter what, the string is always there. It is a favorite in our home as my daughter would have to leave me for periods of time to go to her dad’s house, and it really helped her still feel connected. You will do great! Stay tuned, and watch my videos posts as there are lots coming with ideas that will really help you.
