Birds and Bees

Today I met with several fellow bloggers for an animated and laugh-filled lunch.

Much of the discussion centered around the funny things that we’ve been facing as mothers.  In the discussion, I was reminded of a hilarious video I saw about a year ago about a mom answering her 8 year old daughter’s questions around sex.

As we all were talking, we realized that there was a diverse set of experiences about how we were raised with that topic of sex, and nudity.

And consequently, how we were handling that topic with OUR children, now that we are parents ourselves.

As with every parenting discussion, I always think about how it relates to the principles of conscious parenting.

How much information is appropriate to share?  Do you tell the entire truth?  Do you use cute words to describe the topic or do you use the medical terms?  Do you let your children see you naked?  Why or why not?  Is there an age after which you don’t allow your children to see you nude?

A conscious parent would always tell the truth, but in a way that is age appropriate (and the video below has a great tip on how to do that).  Ignoring the questions, or changing the subject, will only increase your child’s curiosity and they will get the information somewhere.

A parent living the principles of conscious parenting will do everything to foster a relationship that is open, and authentic in every way.  Abraham Hicks teaches of the topic of resistance – and wherever you have resistance, it intensifies that thing in your life.  And I don’t want my daughter to have resistance about the topic of sex or nudity, because I don’t want that to intensify in her life.  🙂  Not until she’s 43 anyway.  Then maybe we could bring it up again.  🙂

I know that I want to be my little one’s source of information, and her first place she turns when she is curious or confused about something. This is what we signed up for, right?

In any case, my intention in posting this was to ultimately share the video, to which I know many parents will relate wholeheartedly.  And if you are feeling down, or needing a lift, this is a good one to do that.

I promised my fellow blogging friends that I would forward the video along to them – and as I was doing it, I thought I’d also share it with you all.

Enjoy…..

Can any of you relate?  Please share…..
